This roller shutter switch gives simple, reliable UP and DOWN control for electric roller shutters, garage doors, awnings and canopies. It is a 240V 10A spring-return rocker switch in a compact surface-mount enclosure, built for installers and homeowners who need a dependable replacement or a switch for a new installation.
Roller Shutter Switch – Up/Down Rocker with Spring Return
The rocker is clearly marked with up and down arrows. Press and hold to raise or lower the shutter; release and the rocker springs back to the centre (off) position, so the motor stops the moment you let go. This momentary, hold-to-run action gives the operator full control of the door at all times and is the standard choice for internal shutter control.
Inside this roller shutter switch is a single pole changeover (SPDT) contact rated at 10A / 240V. Wiring is straightforward: connect Live, Up and Down. Cable entries are provided at both the top and bottom of the enclosure, with a rubber grommet entry, so you can run cable from above or below without drilling the housing.

What Can This Roller Shutter Switch Control?
- Single phase 230V tubular roller shutter motors with built-in limit switches
- Roller shutter control panels and control boxes
- Up and over and sectional garage door motor heads (via the control unit)
- Electric awnings, canopies and car lifts
- Three phase shutter motors when used with reversing contactors
For garage door operators and three phase systems, the switch signals the control box, relay or contactors rather than driving the motor directly. If you are unsure how it will connect to your system, send us a photo and we will check it for you.
Why Choose This Roller Shutter Switch?
- Safe hold-to-run control – the shutter only moves while the rocker is held
- Easy to wire – just three connections: Live, Up and Down
- Flexible cable entry – top or bottom, no need to drill the box
- Compact size – neat on walls, door reveals and shopfronts
- Trade friendly – a common replacement part for domestic, commercial and industrial roller shutters
Installation
Isolate the power before fitting your roller shutter switch. Fix the enclosure to the wall, bring the cable in through the top or bottom entry and connect Live, Up and Down to the terminals. If the shutter runs the wrong way, swap the Up and Down wires. Installation should be carried out by a competent person or qualified electrician in line with current wiring regulations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will this roller shutter switch work with my tubular motor?
Yes, it suits standard single phase 230V tubular shutter motors that have built-in limit switches, which covers most domestic and light commercial roller shutters.
Can it control a three phase shutter?
Yes, when wired to reversing contactors or a three phase control panel. It does not switch three phase power directly.
Is it a latching switch?
No. It is spring return to centre, so the shutter stops as soon as the rocker is released.
Can I use it with a remote control receiver?
Yes. Many installers fit a wall switch alongside a roller shutter receiver kit so the shutter can be run from the wall or by remote.
