This double door magnetic lock secures a pair of doors with one neat 500mm aluminium unit containing two powerful magnets – each holding its own door leaf with 600lb (272kg) of force. It is fail-safe, runs on selectable 12V or 24V DC and works with exit buttons, keypads, fob readers, intercoms and fire alarm systems, making it ideal for double entrance doors, shopfronts and communal entrances.
Because both magnets sit in a single housing, the double door magnetic lock mounts in one position at the centre of the frame head, right where the two doors meet. That means one fixing position, one cable run and a clean, professional finish – with each leaf still locked independently. When the power is cut, both doors release instantly so people can always get out.
Why choose this double door magnetic lock?
- 2 x 600lb (272kg) holding force: one magnet per door leaf for strong, even locking.
- Single 500mm housing: both magnets in one aluminium body – quicker to fit and neater than two separate maglocks.
- Fail-safe (power to lock): locks when powered and releases on power loss – the safe choice for exit routes.
- Selectable 12V / 24V DC: works with most access control power supplies.
- Nickel-plated armature plates: corrosion resistant for lasting performance.
- Complete kit: maglock, mounting plate, 2 armature plates and full fixing kits.
- No moving parts: quiet, low maintenance and long lasting.
Where can I use a double door magnetic lock?
- Double entrance doors to offices, shops and showrooms
- Aluminium and glass shopfront double doors
- Communal entrances to flats and apartment blocks
- Schools, surgeries, churches and community buildings
- Double doors to corridors, stairwells and staff areas
- Double gates used with intercom or door entry systems
How does a double door magnetic lock work?
The maglock body is fixed under the frame head at the centre, over the meeting point of the two doors, and an armature plate is fitted to the top corner of each leaf. When the doors are closed and power is applied, each magnet holds its own door.
To open them, your exit button, keypad, fob reader or intercom cuts the power for a set time and both doors release together.
Because it is fail-safe, the doors also release if the power fails or the fire alarm is triggered, as long as it is wired through a suitable power supply with a fire alarm input. For guidance on fire safety and means of escape, see the UK government’s Approved Document B.

What else do I need?
To complete the system, add a 12V or 24V DC lock power supply with enough capacity for both magnets – ideally with a timer and fire alarm input. Fit a press to exit button or our touchless exit button on the inside, and a keypad, fob reader or our momentary key switch for entry.
Installation
Isolate the power first. Fix the mounting plate under the frame head, centred over the meeting stiles, and attach the maglock body.
Close the doors and fit an armature plate to the top corner of each leaf using the sex bolts, washers and pins supplied, so each plate sits flat against its magnet.
Set the voltage to match your supply, then wire the lock to the lock output and connect your exit and entry devices. Installation should be carried out by a competent installer. On escape routes, maglocks must release on power failure and on a fire alarm signal.
Frequently asked questions
Does this double door magnetic lock lock both doors?
Yes. It has two magnets in one housing, each holding its own leaf with 600lb (272kg) of force.
Is this double door magnetic lock fail-safe?
Yes. It holds when powered and releases when power is removed, which is the standard requirement for doors on escape routes.
Can both doors be released with one exit button?
Yes. Both magnets share one power supply, so a single exit button, keypad or reader releases both leaves together.
I only have one door – what should I buy?
Choose our single door magnetic lock kit, which includes a Z & L bracket for inward opening doors. See the full access control range.
