This touchless exit button lets people release a door with a simple wave of the hand – no pressing, no touching. It uses high-sensitivity infrared sensing with an adjustable detection range of 3–30cm, so you can set it to trigger only when a hand is deliberately waved in front of it. With a slim stainless steel faceplate and wide 12–24V AC/DC input, it is an easy upgrade for offices, shops, clinics, schools and any building with maglocks or automatic doors.
Because nobody needs to touch it, this touchless exit button is ideal for hygiene-sensitive areas such as surgeries, food premises, washrooms and reception areas. The narrow design fits door frames, mullions and tight spaces where a standard square exit button will not.
Why choose this touchless exit button?
- No-touch operation: wave to open – more hygienic than a press to exit button.
- Adjustable range 3–30cm: set the sensitivity to suit the location and avoid accidental triggering.
- Interference-resistant: modulated infrared (38kHz) is not easily fooled by sunlight or reflections.
- Fast response: 30ms response time with a 10ms scanning interval.
- Wide voltage: runs on 12–24V AC or DC, so it suits most access control power supplies.
- Relay output: works with maglocks, electric locks, access control systems and automatic door operators.
- Narrow stainless steel faceplate: neat, durable and easy to fit on slim frames.
Where can I use a wave to open exit button?
- Exit side of doors fitted with a magnetic lock (maglock)
- Office, shop and reception entrances
- Medical, dental and care settings
- Food preparation areas and commercial kitchens
- Washrooms and accessible toilets
- Automatic sliding and swing doors as a request-to-exit or activation switch
A touch-free switch can also help make a building easier to use for people with limited grip or mobility. For guidance on accessible door design, see the UK government’s Approved Document M.
How does the touchless exit button work?
The sensor constantly scans the area in front of the faceplate. When a hand comes within the set detection range, the relay output switches for 0.5 seconds. Your access control unit, maglock power supply or automatic door operator then releases the door for its own set time. On most systems the door release time is adjusted on the controller or power supply timer, not on the button.

Installation
Isolate the power first. Mount the touchless exit button on the secure side of the door, at a comfortable height near the handle or door edge. Connect the power to your 12–24V supply and the relay output to the exit or request-to-exit input of your access controller, maglock power supply or door operator. Adjust the detection range so the touchless exit button triggers with a deliberate wave but not when people walk past. Installation should be carried out by a competent installer. Maglocks used on escape routes should release on power failure and on a fire alarm signal.
Frequently asked questions
Will this touchless exit button work with a maglock?
Yes. Connect it to the exit input of your maglock power supply or access controller, and the lock releases when someone waves at the sensor. It pairs well with our fail-safe magnetic lock kits.
Can a touchless exit button replace a green press to exit button?
In most cases, yes. It does the same job as a push button but without contact, as long as your system can provide 12–24V power to the sensor.
Will people walking past set it off?
Not if the range is set correctly. The detection distance is adjustable from 3cm to 30cm, so you can set it short for busy corridors.
Does it work with automatic doors?
Yes. The relay output can be used as an activation or request-to-exit signal for most automatic door operators.
How long does the door stay open?
The button gives a 0.5 second signal. The open time is set on your controller, power supply timer or door operator.
